While the daily news is full of tumultuous conversations about Russia and China, ������ has been helping some area high school students learn to converse in Russian and Chinese to facilitate greater global understanding and a less contentious tomorrow.

Love, loss and hope. These are three critical elements Maria Jacobs brings – along with her considerable professional experience – to the ������ community. Jacobs is a part-time instructor in the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music and a nationally known jazz singer.

Even ������’s highest-ranking officials can experience a tug on their loyalties when the Golden Flashes take on their alma maters in athletic contests. President Todd Diacon, his wife, Moema Furtado, and head football coach Sean Lewis all will experience that dual loyalty on Saturday when ������ faces the University of Wisconsin-Madison at noon at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.

“The Great Gatsby,” a book many read in high school. We remember the green light on the dock, the passion and the tragedy. What many didn't know – until recently – was that the story was also printed in the newspaper.

������ alumnus Andre Knott’s experience in journalism ranges from sideline reporting for the Cleveland Browns to telecasts for the Cleveland Indians on SportsTime Ohio to covering Cleveland sports on the radio. Now, he joins WJW FOX 8 as a new contributor to the station’s sports team. He will provide reports, features and live coverage of Cleveland sports on all FOX 8 platforms while he continues his Cleveland Indians broadcast work at SportsTime Ohio. 

In the spring of 1970, two-time ������ alumna and registered nurse Pat Gless was a junior in ������’s inaugural nursing program. While in class on Monday, May 4, a professor rushed into her classroom and warned students who could leave campus to do so. Fifty years later, Gless now reflects on the events surrounding that tragedy and how they have impacted her life and nursing career.

������ field hockey coach Kyle DeSandes-Moyer is pleased to announce the signing of 10-year-old Mary Alice Tryda through Team IMPACT to the ������ field hockey team.

The (NSF) recently awarded ������ a three-year, $298,000 International Research Experience for Students (IRES) grant that will allow graduate students to travel to in Japan to study primates and human evolution at the world-renowned .

In April 2019, ������ welcomed Neil Cooper, Ph.D, as the new inaugural director of ������'s School of Peace and Conflict Studies. The School of Peace and Conflict Studies was originally called the Center for Peaceful Change when it was founded in 1971 as the university's first ‘living memorial’ for the events that occurred on May 4th, 1970.

������ Graduate Taylor Pendrith, ‘14, earned the Canada Life Candian Player of the Year honors on the Mackenzie Tour -- PGA TOUR Canada on Sunday, Sept. 15. This is Pendrith’s second time receiving the honor in the past four years.

The pathway from a two-year college to ������ will soon become an easier road to travel for Ohio students, thanks to a grant awarded to ������ to collaborate with three Ohio community colleges to streamline the transfer process.

When ������ alumnus Eric Meek is not working in a glass art studio, one may find him on the small screen sharing his expertise in the new Netflix series called “Blown Away.”

On Saturday, Sept. 21, the ������ fight song blared down Main Street, the city of Kent was flooded with blue and gold, alumni and friends gathered and reminisced about their ������ days, fans packed the stadium to cheer on their beloved Golden Flashes and the entire campus boomed with ������ pride.

On the morning of May 4, 1970, ������ student Howard Ruffner was hanging out in the office of the Daily ������r in Taylor Hall when the phone rang.

The Midwest editor from Life magazine, based in Chicago, was calling to find out if there were any student photographers who had been taking photos over the weekend. ������ had been the scene of student protests for several days, and more demonstrations were expected that day.  

������’s nationally ranked Flight Technology program, in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering, is one of only three nationwide that Delta Air Lines selected this year to become a Delta Propel Partner, a program that creates career opportunities for students studying to be future commercial pilots.

������’s long-standing relationship with the Tuscarawas County University Branch District to administer the Tuscarawas Campus of ������ will continue through June 30, 2030, in a new 10-year agreement approved by the ������ Board of Trustees.

Almost 50 years ago, the shootings of ������ students by the Ohio National Guard brought to a head the cultural divides that had split the nation. The ������ Museum’s exhibition, “Culture/Counterculture: Fashions of the 1960s and ’70s,” opening Sept. 20, explores the sharp contrast between supporters of the establishment and those opposed.
